CBD for Nausea

Nausea is very unpleasant and can be caused by many different things. Stomach bugs, pregnancy and side effects from chemotherapy are some of the most common things that make people nauseous. Studies have shown that CBD may be able to relieve nausea in some instances. It also may be able to target some of the things that cause nausea, such as anxiety.

What is CBD?

CBD, cannabidiol, is made from cannabis plants. However, CBD does not give you a ‘high’ in the same way as cannabis because that sensation comes from another cannabinoid, THC. THC is currently illegal to sell in the UK. You should only buy CBD from companies that publish laboratory reports detailing the contents of their products so that you know exactly what you’re buying.

Can CBD relieve nausea?

A 2011 study is one of the most frequently referenced when it comes to CBD and nausea[1]. In this study, researchers found that CBD may be able to help with nausea because of the way it interacts with serotonin receptors. Serotonin is a hormone that is responsible for mood and vomiting. They recommended that CBD could be used for the treatment of nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy and other medications.

CBD interacts with the body through the endocannabinoid system. This system is involved in many different processes in the body, including digestion. A study in 2013 concluded that the endocannabinoid system has the potential to prevent nausea and vomiting[2]. They recommended that treatments made with cannabinoids should be developed because of the way they interact with the endocannabinoid system. This is very positive news for CBD. At Mee CBD, our products contain other cannabinoids, including CBG.

Can CBD help with nausea from chemotherapy?

Nausea and sickness are some of the most common side effects of chemotherapy. In the UK, the NHS sometimes prescribes Nabilone to relieve these side effects. Nabilone is often referred to as a “manmade form of cannabis”. This review of scientific studies concluded that the effects of cannabidiol and other treatments that interact with the endocannabinoid system require further investigation because of their success in initial studies[3]. It’s important to speak to your doctor before taking CBD as it may interact with other medications that you’re taking.

Can CBD help with the causes of nausea?

CBD might be able to help with some of the causes of nausea, especially anxiety and digestion. Anxiety causes nausea because it activates your body’s ‘fight or flight’ response. This release of adrenaline combined with tensing of your muscles can upset your stomach and cause nausea. CBD is used by many people to help them manage anxiety. A study in 2015 reported that “CBD has considerable potential as a treatment for multiple anxiety disorders”[4]. Reducing any anxiety should help your stomach stay relaxed and prevent nausea.

Digestive problems and indigestion can also make you feel nauseous. CBD has been found to reduce inflammation in the gut[5]. Additionally, people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) report that CBD helps them manage their condition[6]. The endocannabinoid system is essential to a healthy digestive system. Maintaining good gut health is important for keeping your immune system strong which is essential for fighting off any illnesses.

What type of CBD is best for nausea?

At Mee CBD, we sell water-soluble CBD. This type of CBD is great if you are suffering from nausea because it can simply be added to water or any other drink. CBD oil can cause digestive problems because of the other oil that is used as a carrier oil for the CBD. Taking water soluble CBD is easy and won’t irritate your stomach. You can even add it to a ginger or peppermint tea; these herbal teas are good for digestive problems.

All of our CBD products are made from organic CBD. This is very important if you are taking CBD for any reason. If CBD is organic, it guarantees it comes from plants that have had minimal exposure to pesticides and that they have been carefully cultivated. This ensures that you don’t take anything that could make you feel worse!

Summary: CBD and Nausea

The research on CBD and nausea is very promising. It appears that CBD may be able to relieve nausea in some cases. The endocannabinoid system is related to many processes in our bodies and keeping it functioning well is very important to many aspects of our health. Reducing anxiety and promoting good digestion are two ways CBD can help reduce the causes of nausea. Taking CBD every day as a plant-based supplement can help you feel your best.
